My Cherie Amour
by Bart Cooper
In "My Cherie Amour," the canvas becomes a symphony, weaving together the visual and auditory worlds inspired by Stevie Wonder's timeless melody, "My Cherie Amour." This mixed media creation, a fusion of acrylic paint and oil sticks, is a testament to the profound impact of music on the soul.
At the heart of the composition stands a figure—a woman, eyes closed, immersed in the enchanting strains of the song. Her world is adorned with the lyrics that dance in a circulatory formation around her, each word a note echoing the rhythm of her heart. In her hands, she delicately holds headphones over her head, a conduit connecting her to the soul-stirring lyrics of the music.
The vintage graphic T-shirt she wears proudly displays the iconic album artwork of Stevie's "Hotter than July," adding another layer to the narrative. The synergy between the woman and the album cover is palpable, a visual ode to the enduring legacy of Stevie Wonder's music.
As an innovative touch, the lyrics on the canvas are textured with Braille, inviting the observer to experience the artwork not only visually but through touch—a tactile connection to the song's profound message.
The emotion radiating from "My Cherie Amour" is akin to a ray of sunshine, warm and enveloping. It beckons the viewer to step into the artwork, where the lyrical embrace of Stevie's composition becomes a shared experience. The painting is not merely seen; it is felt, heard, and savored—a celebration of music's ability to transcend the canvas and resonate deeply within the soul.
About the Artist
Barthelomew (Bart) Cooper is a contemporary artist based in Los Angeles, California, with roots in West Africa, Liberia. From a young age, Cooper was inspired by the vibrant colors and breathtaking scenery of his homeland, leading him to visually record the world around him. In the face of civil war, Cooper immigrated to the United States at the young age of six years old. Where he would later study fine art, sculpture, and graphic design.
Cooper's work is heavily influenced by Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci, American illustrator Norman Rockwell, and American artist Ernie Barnes. His signature mixed medium, acrylic style merges traditional African values with a westernized American culture, and has gained him a number of celebrity clients and private collectors both nationally and internationally.
In Cooper's own words, "I am a creator, put here to challenge physical, mental, and spiritual growth through my art. The foundation of my work is all about the message of love. Each piece engages in a conversation with the viewer's soul, provokes thought, changes the narrative, and inspires evolution." Cooper's work is a reflection of his own experiences growing up with customary African values in a westernized American culture, and invites viewers to engage with and consider the intersections between tradition and technology.
